@Atomicskull Boeing teamed up with Bell in a 50-50 joint effort to create the V-22 as a matter of fact. Trying to market an aircraft such as the 609 during what amounted to a worldwide economic collapse surely didn't help its chances of success as well as the other issues it had in development. Sad. It's a great achievement!

@iamthefatstig Well, from what I could tell, the forward momentum allowed for there to be enough lift until the rotors got into position. It's a beautiful system.

@sasquatch1366 Actually this is pretty much directly based on the Bell Helicopter XV-15. The V-22 was developed by Boeing without the benefit of Bell's decades of experience with tilt rotor aircraft. They should never have handed it off to a company that had no experience with this type of aircraft.

can't hear it when it in plane mode

with the forward tilted rotors it looks scary as hell...
-
@littlec916 tilt rotors use less fuel the helicopter when there in "airplane mode" due to the design of turbo prop engines.
-
@sketchupto3drad this came after the v-22 tilit rotors have been around since the 60's
-
@ARMOROID5000 thats why they made the v22.
