  • I'm going to CR next month. What kind of vehicle did you rent? I'm looking at renting a Suzuki Jimny 4x4...

  • We rented a Pathfinder at the downtown Thrifty Rental Car in San Jose (rental arranged in the States). It was supposed to be just walking distance from hotel, but it took forever to find ... as you know by now, street signs are optional there. LOL!

  • We drove to Monte Verde on our way to Tamarindo beach ... this is a mountainous area with cooler temperatures... it simply beautiful and worth going up for at least an overnight trip if not more... lots to do. We stayed at the Monte Verde lodge for a very reasonable rate of $100/night.

4-wheel drive is highly recommended. Have a great trip.

  • Guys are those the stock maps in the garmin?

    or is a rented GPS?

thx for help me I need some help w/ gps in Costa Rica

  • I rented it from Thrifty Rental Car in downtown San Jose, but i believe its stock map for Costa Rica. I highly recommend it as you'll find there are no street signs 90% of the time. Have a great trip.

  • We did a similar ride on dirt roads, but we wussed out and backtracked to the main road when the going got rough, LOL

  • You can get detail ones from gpstravelmaps - google gpstravelmaps Costa Rica - base ones from Garmin are lacking roads.

  • google - payloadz costa rica garmin -

buy the routabel one - it is the best Costa Rica Garmin GPS available! Cheaper then rental GPS and these guys drove all the roads! Email Aaron over at - gps travel map -

  • I hope you got where you were going!

Where were you driving in Costa Rica?

We're about to go there and rent a car for four days. Hopefully staying mostly on paved roads.
