Yes, our economy is broken. The problem is, it was designed that way. Congress is doing nothing, as it mostly works on behalf of Wall Street, which is doing fine. This is our republic, our democracy, and it is becoming unrecognizable as the system it was meant to be--for the well being of everyone. Laying off 100 people, while infrastructure needs loom, is a crisis. Reform of Wall Street? Prosecution of a single financier who caused the global and always local crises? Not one of them pays.
