This is Chet Myers' Saturday Night Dance Party over WSNJ-FM on August 15, 1981. I recorded it from Philadelphia. For many years, beginning about 1981, a record collector in Salem, New Jersey, Chester "Chet" M. Myers (1918 - 2003), conducted a Saturday night show in which he acted as host and shared his huge record collection and great knowledge of early recorded music and recording artists with his listening audience. WSNJ was about as hometown radio as you could find, especially in the Philadelphia area market. Its equipment was mostly a hold-over from the forties, its programming was corn-ball, but the station had a loyal following. For most of its seven-decade run, the station was owned by the late Ed and Katherine Bold. Herb Stiles is heard on the sign-off cart at midnight concluding Chet's show. The station signed off every midnight. This video then transitions into a clip from February 2, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. with an announcement of WSNJ-FM's final sign-off. Its announcer is Lynn Timberman, a daughter of the Bolds. 2004 clip courtesy Ralph V. Harvey of Malaga, NJ.

The score Chet referenced is a score from the Bridgeton Invitational Baseball Tournament held at Alden Field every August which WSNJ has been broadcasting since the '60s.
I had the distinct pleasure of being one of the last to work at the Bridgeton site. One really felt like they took a step back in time upon entering the premises.
I'm currently the midday man for WSNJ-AM...the transmitter is still in Bridgeton, but our studios have moved to Millville. Thanks for providing these airchecks.
