Duck eats Duckling

While observing ducks saw a duck swimming around with a duckling in his
mouth. He eventually swallowed it whole. Had never seen Duck
infanticide before. Sorry for the shakiness, it gets hard to hold still
the further you zoom the camera in.

I know male ducks(drakes) will kill all of a female ducklings so he can mate with them again.

@Thezookeeperishere sad but I know other animals do that too, dolphins, lions etc. Just never seen a duck swallow another duck whole! eek!

you sure it wasn't a gosling (baby goose)? they often get mistaken for ducklings, I live by a lake and we have both ducks and geese that share the same lake.

@PHILLYHEAT215 There were some geese at the lake too so it could have been, just assumed it was a duck by the way the other one was following him around like it was hers. :(

@MrKingtyrant05 I think ducks normally eats bugs and fish and other small animals for their protein. Also there is protein in dark green leafy veggies which ducks will eat too. Maybe this lake was running out of those other sources?
