US President Barack Obama suffers embarrassing royal toast mishap at Queen's banquet

Barack Obama suffered an awkward moment during a banquet at Buckingham Palace when he broke royal protocol by speaking over the national anthem.

The US President had just begun proposing a toast to the Queen when the orchestra accidentally struck up God Save The Queen.

However, rather than pause and continue the speech after the music had stopped, Mr Obama pressed on only to be rebuffed when he raised his glass to the monarch.

The Queen did not seem to take offence at the mishap and appeared to stifle an embarrassed smile.

Protocol demands that people stand to attention when the national anthem is played.

Since he and Michelle are both tall, they both think they are in control of EVERYTHING, even when they are on someone else's patch. Both of them physically control other people by shoving them ahead. Obama shoved his HOST into No.10 Downing St. Michelle puts her hand on the back of that little old lady and pushes her ahead, even at Buckingham Palace. Someone ought to slap both of them to teach them some common courtesy! It isn't the way a guest behaves, particularly to the Queen.

As a matter of fact, most people DO care about it. And that applies to more than just presidents and prime ministers. The average person has expectations of the way in which a guest will act in their house, or office, or classroom, or business. If you are the host, you don't get ushered into your home by the guest. If you are the boss, you don't get offered a seat in your own office by someone wants a job. If you are the person behind the bar then you pour the drinks.

...so, what Obama was doing, was attempting to take charge of events at a banquet at which he was the guest, not the host.

Barack Obama has never got the hang of even the most basic formalities. One could not follow a toast (to the Queen) by toasting something or someone else within the SAME toast, even if it WAS her country. Once he had said the words "to the Queen" the toast was made. This applies, even if it is NOT the Queen who is being toasted.

How embarrassing. One doesn't speak during the playing of any nation's national anthem; one stands quietly out of respect.
