http://www.sandersclinic.net Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries are a common orthopaedic problem, especially in sports that are high-contact or involve sudden changes in direction. This particular patient tore her left ACL while skiing. Now, 4 months after her ACL reconstruction, she returns to skiing in Canada. Her ACL reconstruction involved taking a bone-patellar tendon-bone graft from her right knee and inserting it into her left knee. This graft is what is known as the "gold standard" because of its strength and healing time. For more information about ACL reconstruction at the Sanders Clinic, Dr. Sanders, or other injuries, please visit http://www.sandersclinic.net or call 1-888-8DR MARK. *These results ARE typical. **Please DO NOT try this at home if you are not a Sanders Clinic patient. ***Consent from this patient has been obtained. • Does it take 4 months ? I had a fall last year and going for a op surgery in a couple of weeks. i thought i could hit the slopes after 3-4 weeks with braces and all. this title is quite demoralizing.. or am i asking for too much ? is it crazy to start skiing back so soon ? please advise..

  • At one month, you wll tear out the graft before you get off the lift.

  • Can anybody give me some advice.. i had my ACL operation almost a year ago, but i had the graft from my hamstring. it was going really well to start with i could walk after a few days, jog after a few months etc... i have even played a 90 min football match now and it felt ok yet i still cannot fully extend my leg when i kick the ball hard.. it still hurts... it seems as if that last inch of extension is where i get the pain... is there still a problem or do i just need more physio??

  • Getting full extension is the most important thing. You should visit your doctor.

  • No way. Walking after 1 day? I just got cleared to do light jogging and today is my 11th week post op. I could barely get out of bed 1 day after and didn't walk until 12 days post op. She must be on a lot of pain med to do that.

  • @Debilugaujos haha i just had my acl surgery and i know what u mean !!! hahahaa

  • @Debilugaujos i know right haha yeah if you can lift your leg up in the bed after a day your doing good, its been 4 months almost for me doin good!

  • i swear every single of this hospitals video on YouTube looks like they some kind of magical hospital . there no way in fucking hell you can walk normally after an day ...... i still hawe to break a sweet to be able to take a shit... and its been only 4 days

  • I am eight months out of and an avid skier. I have been cleared to return to all sports except skiing until febuary. Any suggestions for when I do make my return.... is it painful at all, does it feel stable? I can't wait!

  • don't see any published studies that recommend returning to sport such as skiing at 4 months. But I guess if the music is cool, its all good

  • my MRI scan of 2008 show I have complete ACL tear and tear of the meniscal this is on both knees, it happen when I was 18 (1986) and I never had surgery I am now 43 and yes even now I have had the some swelling but that is rare now and I find cycling my bike 20 miles a day 4 days a week as really helped, I don't have much knee pain any more thanks to cycling but everyone tell me I should still have surgery or I will be in trouble when I am older...

    any advice?

  • Its been 6 moth since my ACL reconstrustion + Meniscus Repair.

I started playing football again last sunday, but after about 1 hr,i suddenly felt something in my knee while i was running with the ball. (the exact place where my meniscus were torn).immediately stopped playing and had ice placed on top of the knee. The next day i woke up without swelling but realized tht i couldnt fully stretch my knee! Its like being blocked.Any idea what might had happened?

  • i tore my ACL skiing and i am now 8 weeks after surgery with full strength and full range of motion from -10 extension to 140 bend.. but i still have to watch myself for the next few months.. for fear of it randomly giving out and injuring it again.. but luckily i got surgery in may so i should be more than ready for 2011 skiing season.
