V. Improvisation by Elliott Carter Performed by Vince Collotti at his senior recital on December 6th, 2009.

Besides being virtuoso solos for the timpanist, the pieces are studies in the controlled, interrelated changes of speed now called metric modulation, and generated ideas carried further in my First String Quartet begun at the same time and completed shortly afterwards. Each piece is dedicated to a performer who showed an interest in the works in their early days:

"V. Improvisation (1949/1966) Paul Price The opening phrase furnishes materials for numerous variations with constant changes of speed. - Elliott Carter

  • Nice job!! I`m actually studying this peace, very good work!!!

  • Good job!! Theses pieces are not easy at all... I suggest: Elliot Carter is very strict with the tempo you know... Be sure to respect more the tempo, if you do it, one can here better the metric modulations. I really like the character you express... Nice work!
