they are trying to get more people to watch this sport. so an average person wouldnt know the answer to that question. he is just trying to get information to the viewers. its not that he doesnt know. its just his way of sending info to uninformed people. if they said oh hes throwing this ball on this oil patter but then switched to another ball but never explained why, some people would know the answer but others would be clueless.

I know, it sounds a bit ignorant, but this question is being asked more and more as the amount of participants in this sport increases. I've been asked this question countless times while I practice and it's from people who I know don't bowl just by watching them. They don't know much about the sport. A ball is a ball to them. I just stay patient with them and give the info they ask for. Better to know more about bowling and leave a little more educated.
