Being a member of the military entitles you to no more respect than anyone else. Just like being old doesn't give you the right to respect. Its a job, nothing more. War simply brings out the hero or coward. A hero in war has the ability to be a hero if hes an accountant. Its not the uniform. Its the man. And any man who has the ability will earn my respect simply because of who he is. But wearing a uniform doesn't entitle you to anything. Saying it does is ignorant.

Did you not read my comment? When did I ever say that soldiers are "bad people." I said "some soldiers are murders and terrible people just like any other human being." I know this cause my roommate is in the Army (Army reserves) and he can tell you first hand that while most of them are great people. They are still human beings. I'm sure your father is a great person. But that doesn't mean that you should be blind to the reality that not every soldier is like your father.

I think you guys are confusing like with respect. You can have a personality qualm with someone and still respect them for the decision they made and what they go through on a daily basis. You think the only thing soldiers do with their lives is join the military and then they do nothing? We are clearly two different types of people and will never understand each other, until you have felt strongly enough about something to make the conscious decision to put yourself in the line of fire.

Not in my opinion. Some soldiers are just straight up assholes, just like every other profession you have good ones and bad ones. Some soldiers deserve no respect, because the only thing they've ever done in their lives IS join the military.

So making the choice to possibly sacrifice yourself for the brother next to you, your country or both deserves no respect? Simply making the choice to enlist, not doing so as a last resort, is respectable. especially when most peoples hardest decision of the day is whether to order a number 6 or 8 from McDonald's for dinner. There is a difference between a "last-resortsman" wearing a uniform and a soldier. Soldiers deserve your respect.
