In this tutorial, i show you how to use a router that has been modified with DDWRT firmware, as a virtual proxy, in order to bypass firewalls and filters at work or school, and not have to use public proxies.

Tools needed:
DDWRT modified router http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index
Dynamic DNS subscription http://www.dyndns.com/
Putty telnet client http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

Feel free to ask questions, but post them as comments, I will NOT answer private messages.

  • Great tut but here is what I would change. If you research the dd-wrt wiki they actually recommend leaving web gui disabled because its a resource hog and a security risk. Instead they recommend using SSH tunnel which you then can access the router GUI as if you were in the network. You use h t t p : // localhost since you are virtually in the router and everything you do is encrypted including login to router. So I would remove suggestion to enable web gui

  • @D0M1N8R1x true, but i like to put a test method on my tutorials, enabling gui temporarily helps that, it helps single out problems with telnet client, it is a resource hog, but it depends on the router, it has little to no effect on my Atheros based router, dir 300. it is optional

  • Hey man im using a TP-Link WR340G Router do you have any idea how can i proxy through it?

  • Very intuitive video and I thank you for putting it together.

What version of DD-WRT are you using. I have just bought a Linksys WRT-54 V8 with DD-WRT installed that does not have the same services sub-page as you show on your video. I obviously need to upgrade, but would appreciate knowing which version I can use. Thanks for your assistance in advance.
