  • Hello Ozzy

There isnt a kit as such. You would need to buy a set of drawings (Second hand £30 to 40) and then the materials to cut the frames from and the other parts like stretchers and rods. The cylinders are made from castings that need to be machined, the wheels are again castings and need machining. The boiler is copper and can be made from tube and sheet silver soldered together. The boiler must then be pressure tested to twice working pressure before being used.

    Cheers Kevin

  • How much does one of these locos cost?

  • Hi

The one in the video took 1000 plus hours to build so the price is on the high side. If your interested email me and ill let you know, or if its general interest ill pass on what I think the price should be.

    Cheers Kevin

  • Hi Bertie

very well for a small engine. The limiting factor is keeping a head of steam in what is a small boiler. I had no trouble going the distance around a 1/4 mile loop track with a couple of steep gradiants. The trick I found was a thin fire with lots of small coalings.

Sadly I have now sold the Tich to fund another project but id recomend the Tich to any one that likes a bit of a challenge.

gas firing would be the best option for easy driving, or a decent six wick meths burner.

  • Don't ever stick your fingers into the rods with steam up. It looks delicate, but it is strong enough to clip the ends off your fingers! 80psi on a 3/4 inch piston is about 35 pounds on 3/4 inch lever arm formed by wheel crank.

  • How big are these to 16mm (SM32)?

  • LBSC was such a wonderful force in model engineering to enable the ordinary person to achieve a working end result in an achievable timescale.

  • hi i must say it runs so well ive heard storys of these that just dont and thetimings out. there so small that its like building a watch lol. i wanzt to start building locos i have a small amount of knowlage but could i build one of these with a bit of help from my m8s at the local mini railway club and how much is a kit??? thanks a lot ozzy

  • It was just a general intrest, but i have a felling that if i was going to get one(which i really want to) i might have to start saving up now.

  • Hello Kevin, very nice engine. I would like to know how it runs on rails. I am interested in this because I can buy one, and am planning to use it on tracks.
