Analysis of Diabetes in the Pima Indian Tribe. This video was created for the ANTH 317 North American Indian Cultures class during the Fall 2010 semester at the University of South Carolina.
A little correction, Type 1 diabetes is caused by the Pancreas - Type 2 is cause by Insulin Resistance that develops in the body from the onslaught of high fat and high carb foods.
Natives have hunter/gatherer genes that are super efficient in long delays between meals - The white man three meals a day with lots of high carb grains and fat just burns out our systems.
But now, the rest of the country is in danger because they're poisoning us and everyone with High Fructose Corn syrup!
either the issue of diabetes is a white man's disease as you put it or it is hereditary...you said both in this video...I helped a native indian woman with diabetes to get her blood sugar under control 2 years ago now...it is still under control I gave her a diet plan to follow which I follow as I am missing part of my bowel so I eat right and I exercise which she now does...people who follow a mediteranian food guide who by the way are white have a low incidense of diabetes...
Wow, very good, accurate, and informative. I am 1/4 registered Pima, and my full-blooded grandmother suffered from Diabetes her entire life. Diabetes, morbid obesity, and alcoholism are prevalent in my tribe, sadly. It's heart-breaking.
For the record, "Gila" is pronounced, "HEE-lah." :) Like the Gila monster lizard.
why the thousands of odam in mexico dont have this problem
