Kissimmee is located in Osceola County which is Central Florida so I use a Field Guide light and durable for this area of the country. Using a Field Guide to help identify birds simplified. Six incredibly easy tips. You want to remember your reason for going out and viewing the birds - for fun! So keep it that way. Purchase a great Field Guide and familiarize yourself with the basics, BEFORE using it in the field. Knowing what to look for is key. Start with the silhouettes, size, shape and behavior of the bird. Then take note of the habitat you are in, and the sounds the bird makes. Learn bird topography and your Field Guide will point out the minor details to confirm your siting.

  • I have really enjoyed your videos. They are very informative. I am new to birding and am enjoying it immensely. I started with a pair of 8x42 Bushness binoculars (I was glad to hear that size is good). I am getting more exercise than I used to and I am noticing all kinds of birds that I previously took for granted. I have seen herring gulls, red headed woodpeckers, sandhill cranes, bald eagles, wood ducks, red tail hawks, cedar waxwings and many other neat species. Love your videos! Thanks

  • @wguilkey Nice to hear my videos are enjoyed and still informative. Birding is a wonderful hobby and good binoculars add so much more to the experience. Glad you are out there enjoying our feathered friends too. Once we realize their beauty and uniqueness, I believe we begin to care enough to help conserve their habitats for future generations to enjoy. All the best birding to you!

Glad you found it useful, and thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • Thanks JC. That is the plan. Make it easy and fun for new birders out in the field, so there are more people who care about our feathered friend's plight.
