well, a funnel in a tornado is made of dust and dirt and debris. when the funnel moving winds begin, it sucks up all the dirt and debris towards the top, so it looks like its going down, but it's technically coming from the ground.

Nah tornados start to crown in the clouds but the cycle starts on the ground and then it connects in the middle, so thats really were he messed up.
