I think that Pitts and Rots are viewed as scary and mean so people who like that stereotype are likely to own and breed them to favor those characteristics. I think that is the only reason those breeds would be more aggressive than others. I find adult dogs actually easier to train because they have longer attention spans. My 1 yr old mastiff knows all basic obedience commands and they are viewed as stubborn. It is just a matter of forming a great bond and keeping it interesting for them.
I think some dogs are stubborn, but that doesn't mean they are untrainable, it means you'll need to spend the time with them, to understand what makes them tick, and what will motivate them; praise, food, praise. Oh, and be patient too.
@14u2nv funnily enough it took my cocker spaniel a month to roll over. It was more that she didn't understand what I was trying to do (and I had to use countless methods to get her to understand). With the time and patience though she did it I was so pleased!
i agree with everything you said here especially that the bully breeds stereotype is bull. my sister has a 6 year old pit bull that was not socialized very well he didnt even meet me till he was 5 but the second i walked into that door he wanted attention and hes not the only one ive met countless "bullies" that are more loving than most people i know
Of course they can ! I have two westies which are said to be stubborned , my older one is eleven and my younger 1. I've started with Reglisse (the older) when she was 8 ! you can see both of them here :
Stubborn breed continues; I now have a Staffie named Tula, my first one. Grew up with English Setters, which I think are easy dogs to train. Tula is a stubborn dog, if it's the breed or just her I'm not sure of. She truly hates repeating stuff. So again, takes a lot of time to teach her new commands, but given enough time, she learns. Once or twice with the same thing and she's done for the day. So my experience is that some breeds require more patience then others. Just can't give up. :)
Can you teach and old dog new tricks? Absolutely, but it might take more training.
Is there such a thing as a stubborn breed? Based on my experience; yes, I think so. However, that doesn't mean you can't train a "stubborn dog".
It took me a month to teach a Border Collie/German Shepherd mix to roll over, training every day. Reason? She got tired of doing it after a cpl of times each day. I am convinced she knew what I wanted her to do after the first cpl of times, she just choose not to. :)
I have a 12-13 year old auzzie, when she was about 1-2 I was attacked by a dog. I never noticed anything being I had 2 dogs I never had them around to many other dogs after that. That being said I lost my other dog almost 2 years ago and learned that the remaining dog HATES other dogs! To the point of opening doors to go try and attack. Do you have any suggestions? She loves people and the dogs of her family that she saw grow up but otherwise would jump out if the car if she could. Help
I think that they are not true it is the person not the dog the dog is willing to try somthing as long as you make it fun you cant just try it 1 time no one can learn somthing just one time you have to try over and over to get it my old dog knows how to shake and set and jump ext.. my puppy knows how to do all the same stuff my older dog does.
i think its awsome to rescue dogs too. i dont like it when people breed dogs because there are so many dogs out there that need homes. if people want a puppy there are still puppies that you can rescue too ive seen loads and i also have a rescue puppy and they are just as good as a dog from a breeder.
