The NCAA, the WAC and the Big 12 (where the officials were from) all disagree that it was an illegal block or that it was malicious in intent.
But don't let logic interfere with your mob mentality calling for John Bender's head on a spike.
Carry on...here's a pitchfork.

Karma comes back to bite BYU for their dirty play, with a cheap shot late hit on Nevada's Chance Kretschmer, which ended his season with a knee injury.

Bronco Mendenhall is crazy if he thinks that hit on Fuga was away from the ball. Bender made a good block and it's unfortunate that Fuga went down. BYU fans are upset that Nevada came and owned them. GO PACK

It doesn't matter if it is a flop. It falls under the definition of a block in the rules. It doesn't matter where the hit came from, only where the contact is made. I'm not saying this is a "clean" block but it isn't illegal.
Now I won't be surprised if the NCAA does take a hard look at banning most blocking below the waist due to plays like this.

My own coach? I had no rooting interest in this game and quite frankly, coaches rarely know the rules that well. Despite what the coach said, a low block to the SIDE of the leg is not a clip. It's right there in Rule 9.

Im a D-1 all conference O-linemen, and I cut block all the time. This is a very borderline block. However you cannot hold anything against John, he was doing his job and although to me it looks cheap it also looks within the rules of the game. As an O-Linemen you cant go into every block asking yourself if your going to hurt someone. Dont coddle Fuga, he decided to play football and knew the risks. Football is a violent game.

I hate BYU, but I feel for Fuga. I don't think the Nevada player wanted to hurt Fuga I think he was more concerned about not making his block. Things like this happen in football it's part of the game, but to say this kid did it intentionally to hurt Fuga is wrong. @largepanther, so if Notre Dame complains about a hit are you going to have less respect for Catholics?! Don't be a dumbass
