India is a crucial development partner for German, according to German Parliamentarians. Members of the German Parliament belonging to the German-Indo Parliamentary Friendship Group on March 1, 2011, highlighted the urgency of forging a bilateral alliance in sectors such as business, health, education and politics. Speaking to PIO TV, MP Sebastian Edathy, the head of the 8 delegation team, said that attention to India has grown over the years given her strategic position as a growing economy and largest democracy in the world. Edathy said Germany is the economic leader in Europe. Edathy echoed his country's keen intent to strengthen ties with India in education, technology, bilateral trade, security and other minor sectors as well. The MP disclosed that Germany's largest bilateral Chamber of Commerce in the world is the one in India. Areas such as environment, bio energy, water purification and health also needed attention, said Johannes Singhammer, another German MP. The delegation was in India for a series of consultative meetings to strengthen Indo-German ties.
