at first, this isnt a side quest. collecting a heart piece is not a side quest. a quest you get from people or objects. like in oot you get the biggoron swords. or get the 7 chickens. 1 heart piece is NOT a side quest...

Uh...you could hit them before they get electrified =\ Or use the Tingle Tuner
But other than that, I Sorta do the same thing when going to Dragon Roost (going for the heart piece)
