A severe thunderstorm blew through Wilmington, Delaware in the afternoon of June 24, 2010. The city's Homeland Security-funded municipal siren system fired off not long after the storm hit the city. You can hear the thunder and rain over the siren...

I heard the siren from where I was working and immediately thought it was a tornado warning. I ran outside to listen to the voice announcement and heard to my relief that it was just a "severe lightning alert." Still pretty cool and not too common in Wilmington. I was able to get audio and a photo but no video because I don't have a memory card in my phone.

  • Tornado

  • @bigwill1551 It wasn't a tornado that day. This was in August 2010. The sirens were activated for heavy lightning. Yet when a tornadic storm with heavy straight-line winds blew through Wilmington on August 10, 2011, the sirens were NOT activated - at least not that I heard.
