This is clip from a video of a presentation I made at the 2008 AUA conference. This part of the presentation deals with using a visual guide and using the peripheral vision.

  • How do you just use your "central area of vision..." and "take in most of a line with a single glance" when using your "guide" ? Is that what you were trying to say with doing it in columns? I couldn't hear it well.

  • You pick out key words and phrases with your focused vision, while allowing your powerful peripheral vision to see the rest. You have to 'bounce' your eyes along the lines and down the page from key word to key word. As you do this, your peripheral vision absorbs the whole meaning. With the guide you make narrower columns so you don't have to read to the edge of the page

It's all explained on my audio course 'Speed Reading for Success' which you can download from my website :)

  • Thanks for your comment. Whenever I teach a speed reading group which includes a dyslexic person, more often than not, the dyslexic person ends up being the fastest reader! With speed reading you concentrate on the meaning of the phrases, sentences and paragraphs - and you get less hung up on the individual words themselves. Try it and see!

  • Sorry some of you you are finding it hard to hear what I'm saying. We will do better next time - watch this space!

  • Thank you for commenting on my video. Please check my website if you are interested in learning more about speed reading. A download version of our best selling audio book 'Speed Reading for Success' is now available. It's cheap - and you can get it instantly! Do post questions and I will try my best to answer.

  • I can't hear one word she sais, the sound is really bad...

  • Trying to read faster is like trying to make money faster, it's probably not going to work and it's probably a scam.
