The Fall release of the upper Gauley River in West Virgina has the best white water in the Eastern US. This was our first time down the upper Gauley using a small raft, team extreme is worth the extra money. Eric Powell has been our guide many times, we went to Costa Rica and rafted the Pacuare river with him in December 1998. We didn't expect to have the full flip in Iron Ring. Sweets Falls is the last class 5 rapid, the box cannon below the falls offers the last technical feature of the upper river before the take-out. i've been down the gauley many times, iron ring is not on you want to lose the boat in. But in the mid 80's i believe the river was at a much higher water level, it's still fun but not as once as it was.
