Red Conquest is a real time strategy game for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

This video is a walkthrough of one of the campaign levels, which is actually quite difficult to beat, especially if you don't recover quickly from the first onslaught!

Fortunately for me, as the developer, I know exactly where to place my units in the first couple of minutes to give myself an advantage in this level. :)

With the video annotations, I'll guide you through some of the UI in the game as well as medium level strategies that can be employed in the level.

  • in future versions i would like to see some sort of leveling system put in. i got the game yesterday and i am loving it but i wish vetrans would be noticed. personally i would like to see a ship customisation system and this would be your ship and would be kinda OP to start and would level up but with so many customisations that it would be risky to attack immediatley without knowing which custom ship your enemy has

  • how can you play with a cursor??????

  • What the....???? What are they? Crabs?

    Hmm...looks interesting though.

  • Two words... fighter rush.

I tried swarming the center using primarily carrier and destroyer units. Failure. If I was lucky enough to have an attack force left by the time I took the planet, I would be wide open to the blue counterattack in the surrounding asteroid field.

Then I tried building primarily fighter units backed up by destroyers and one or two carriers... wiped the floor with this map, and almost all the other maps I tried out!

    Zerg rush! Kekekekekekee

  • And you can get by with less, and you can build up more - if you want to get away with 1 harvester, base, foundry, you can - but you'll need to attack earlier, and even try to take out the resource collectors of your enemy

(i.e. slow them down near the beginning, and let your army grow faster)

  • 2 harvesters, 1 base, 2 foundries is reasonable if you want to just pump out battleships from your foundries.

If you're also building carriers from your base, then 2 harvesters, 1 base 1 foundry is okay.

Just make sure your harvesters are close to the centre of a resource area instead of just being outside of the area, so that they can get the most resources from it.

  • Great tips! Put em' up on touch arcade :P. I always have trouble with resources. I never can get em fast enough. How many would be a reasonable amount? I've had 2 harvesters and my base before but never more than that. What is the recommended level of harvesters?

  • Tip 3: slow down the game! in game options, you can slow down the game to 33%, to give yourself better reaction time in the fight. :)

Tip 4: have an active defense: when you're being attacked, close your defensive line in on them - and don't be afraid to use your base or foundry, they're beefy defensive units. Try to let one ship get very close, and surround it by 2 or 3 units. That ship will die very quickly, giving you better odds in the fight.

    :)

  • Tip 2: Do you have enough builders? Make sure you always have at least one foundry in addition to your base. Without enough building capacity, it can be hard to make your army fast enough. Of course, resources are more important than builders because even if you have 5 foundries, they're useless without the supporting harvesters.

Even with 3-4 battleships, you can have a decent offensive run. Try attacking earlier, and it will push the AI back a little bit to give you more time to build. :)

  • Tip 1: are you limited by your resources? Make sure you are collecting resources by putting your harvesters (and your base) directly in the centre of a group of resources. Building more harvesters early on can help as well, or looking around for harvesters that aren't close enough to resources.

To tell if you're limited by resources, look at the resource indicator at the top - if it's 0, and there's red text beside it ("-100" or something), then you're using more than you're collecting.
