These are clips from the opening night performance of "Captured Accidents: Valencia Street Live", an interactive video installation that was placed in the front window of the ATA Gallery on Valencia Street in San Francisco during the month of December 2008. Normally, the installation was self running - a video camera pointed at the sidewalk would record anyone who walked by, looping and processing the captured images. But at the opening night reception for the installation, I manually controlled the recording, looping, and processsing. I invited a friend and dancer - Mira Cook - to participate, providing lots of good motion and imagery to capture and process. More details about the camera and controller used in the installation can be found at http://nosuch.com/tjt/loopycam . There was actually music being played at the opening, but it's not included here.
By the way, just to make it clear, all of the quadrant manipulation, loop selection, and processing were done live - what you're seeing is what was projected at the event. This video was created by just concatenating together some of the better sections of the show. When you see a red outline on one of the quadrants, it means that the video camera was actively recording that quadrant, as opposed to playing back a previously-recorded loop.
