Falling Off Jersey

So.. this is my very first fall off caught on video! And it's one of my worst.. I was caught completely off gaurd because she had already gone over the oxer once before and when she tucked her head way underneath her I couldn't push myself back up in time lol. I landed on the jump cups and I have a lovely bruise on my lower back :( but other than that we both walked away unharmed.

Jersey is a very difficult horse to ride. She was nervous about the jump in the first place and I was like and ince too forward. In order for Jersey to jump well, you have to literally drive with your seat and stay waaayy back out of her way. Its a mistake I won't make again haha

I know letting go of the reins isn't the first thing on your mind when falling, but just remember that if your holding the reins when you fall, and the horse takes off for whatever reason, you could dislocate your shoulder and hurt your horse's mouth.

You are supposed to let go of the reins when you fall. You could get stepped on.

Well like everyone is saying, yeah you shouldn't hold the reins. But I completely understand that at a moment like that, letting go of the reins isn't the first thing you would be thinking. It would probably be more like: Holy crap I'm falling! lol
