If you are active or retired military facing divorce, Washington is a good State for you. Washington State laws and Courts treat military men in divorce more fairly than most other states.

+ The required waiting period is only 90 days.

+ Alimony or spousal support is not awarded to wives in short term marriages.

+ Child support is controlled by a State Formula based on the income of both parents, and is fair to men. The support level is easily determined by using the formula. You do not see outrageous support levels based on emotion and favoritism to the women.

+ Men have a real chance to be awarded custody or very liberal visitation. There is not a rule that the wife automatically gets the kids, and husband gets the bills.

+ Washington has a unique law that allows deployed military men to assign their visitation rights to a person of their choice. So while you are deployed your kids are seeing the people that you want them to be with.

+ Washington courts follow the military guidelines for awarding an interest in your military retirement. Your hard earned retirement benefits are not handed out by whim.

+ You must have been married for at least 10 years during your military service before any award is made to your x-wife. If an award is made it is based strictly on the years of marriage during active service.

+ Divorce is tough and scary. Your children, income, property and retirement are at risk. If you have to go through divorce, try to do it in Washington State.
