@3tangle3 Ewan MacColl (real name Jimmy Miller) the writer of Dirty Old Town was born in Salford, England but both of his parents were Scottish. His father was William Miller from Stirlingshire and his mother was Betsy Hendry from Perthshire.

@ubmilitant Quite so it is a cover version but not a cover version of a Pogues song as such as that was itself a cover of the MacColl original. There were a few covers prior to the Pogues doing it too including Rod Stewart, The Spinners, Donovan and Roger Whittiker

just so everyone knows this song wasnt orignally by the pogues, it was written in 1949 by ewan maccoll, and the song isnt about ireland its about salford in manchester

@supersonicbrian shane didn;t write it.....its written by a man of irish descent living in Manchester england called Ewan MacColl. Written in 1949 and was made popular by The Dubliners.
