Eddy's first solo stage win ever in a Tour De France; 1969

The greatest cyclist ever, Eddy Merckx, in what he reminds as his favorit Tour ever, the 56th TdF in 1969.

The 1969 race is unique in that it is the only time that a single cyclist has won not only the yellow jersey, but the green jersey and polka dot jersey as well. Eddy Merckx rode on the winning team, FAEMA, won the combination jersey and the combativity award, and had the young riders' white jersey existed at the time he was young enough to win that as well. So here is the moment where that historical moment started. We are rolling from Mulhouse to Ballon d'Alsace. The avg. for that Tour was 35.409 km/h (22.002 mph).

Very very very impressive list of victories when you look at it. And in all different kinds of racing. From the flats to the cobblestones to the high mountains, Eddy was as big as cycling is and ever will be.

This footage is from a DVD i bought a couple of months ago, with all just fantastic crystal clear stuff. I will put up some more ''Eddy-stuff'' later. Thank you.

Know your cicling history, lance never won the 3 great races in one year, Merckx has won the most yellow jersies ever in the tour, Lance never attacked in a tour, he won more tours but never did anything else, Eddy ran every race in a seison and won most of them. Lance shoudn't stand in Eddy's shadow

Stand up ovation for you! Thanks for your truth, as half-American/half Dutch! But don't blame 'em. It has to do with the US media too. They only show cycling when an American is going for the victory! You really have to search for the Giro, Vuelta, Lombardia etc. when you are in the States.When you're a mainstream cycling-follower you don't have a clue in my beloved USA. Just like we'll have to search for the Tours of California and Georgia.
