Erroll Garner (1921-1977) composed Misty in 1954. The Erroll Garner Trio's recording of Misty (Mercury, 1954) was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1991; the version by Johnny Mathis (Columbia, 1959) was inducted in 2002.

(2 of 2)There is a special Grammy award that was established in 1973 to honor recordings that are at least 25 years old and that have "Qualitative or historical significance." I've heard Johnny refer to these 3 songs in interviews as "The Trilogy." He has said he must sing these 3 songs at his live concerts then he can sing anything he wants to sing.

(1 of 2)Yes, Johnny's recording of Misty was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2002. There were 2 other of his songs inducted as well. "It's Not For Me To Say" inducted in 2008 and "Chances Are." inducted in 1998.
