Combatants

Modern historians find Arrian's count of six hundred thousand men highly unlikely, and estimate Persian numbers under Darius III from 25,000[3] to 100,000, including 11,000 cavalry,[2] 10,000 Persian Immortals, and 10,000 Greek mercenaries.[6][5]

In ancient sources (Arrian and Plutarch), that based their accounts on earlier Greek sources, estimated 600,000[2] Persian soldiers in total, while Diodorus and Justin estimated 400,000, and Curtius Rufus estimated 250,000.

[edit] Macedonian Army
The size of the Macedonian army may not have exceeded 40,000 men, including their other Greek allies, led by Alexander. Alexander's army may have consisted of about 22,000 phalangites and hoplites, 13,000 peltasts, and 5,850 cavalry.

  • @darkmessiahnz Channel 4 is a UK broad casting channel.

  • What is channel 4? What country is it from? This is a pretty good documentary.

  • Speaking to many Greeks from Athens,GREECE,they Stated that Alexander The Great was Both a "Collective Experienced CHESS Player Tactician, Checkmating all his Generals and Opponents"in "Chess".Afterwards, After Exercircing his Mind! with Many Chess Dramas, Alexander The Great would Drink his Wines, both Cool Sparkling Fruit Wines and NON-Sparkled Red Wines.Alexander The Great was A Man of Respecting his Captures too,Gave Authority & Power to ALL both GREEK & BABYLONIAN & Persian, while he Rests!!

  • @juanestebanmt78

Well, in the meantime, I have watched another documentary at /watch?v=FuaaD9r9gUE&feature=related telling the story of the battle at the Hydaspes river and I am impressed by Alexander's strategy, tactics and shrewdness as depicted there. And before all, his boldness. It also proves your point about his deployment tactics. Highly recommended!

  • @traveler900 Alexanders genius lied in deployment (this includes reading the terrain and the oppositions battle plan), placing himself where the battle would be turned. He relied heavily in the quality of his his troops and officers. He also had a tone of luck and an unbelievable constitution, that he did not get killed by any of the wounds he incurred.

  • Every chess player knows that you just cannot ignore your other wing when you attack from one wing, you should always keep an eye on the other. So this battle as reconstructed here does not prove Alexander's genius for me, but the weakness of his enemy.

  • channel 4 shits all over crappy cheapy american documentaries
