Kinetic Theory of Matter
1. Matter consists of very large number of very small
particles.
2. The particles are always moving. They are moving with speed/velocity, v. [distance over time]
3. Their motion is random & constantly collide with each other & with the container.
4. When particles move with speed/velocity v, they possess kinetic energy. [E = 1/2 mv^2]. Kinetic energy depends on mass & speed/velocity. The actual amount of kinetic energy depends on the numerical calculations using the kinetic energy formula.
5. Particle has the ability to move due to heat energy from the surrounding. Lighter particles travel faster & heavier particles move slower.
6.The higher the temperature, the faster the motion, & the larger the values of the kinetic energy of the particles.
7. There's no forces of attraction between particles.
8. The collision time is very short, less than 1 second, compared to the time between collision between 2 particles or between the particle & the wall of the container
