G.T.O. (Warren Oates) speaks of the engine and it's mods (Ram Air IV, etc) to a hitchiker he picks up (where a sign sez not to 'cause prison nearby, you see a lot of those in Texas), and Oats utters some classic lines:

G.T.O.: "Performance and image, that's what it's all about."

G.T.O.: "Just color me gone, baby!." VRrrrooooom!!

Warren Oates ... G.T.O
Bill Keller ... Texas hitchhiker
James Taylor ... The Driver
Laurie Bird ... The Girl
Dennis Wilson ... The Mechanic

Directed by Monte Hellman

  • funny thing, those specs don't sound all that impressive anymore...0 -60 in 7.5? I'm no gearhead, but I think a Subaru WRX can do that nowadays.

  • @greg4161 Ford 427?

  • ahh the 70's when you could pick up upcoming comedians in your car and not get killed!

  • @frankbooth64 I agree, this is his best performance. I've seen this movie 50 times. Warren totally reminds me of my late friend. He too was a bragger and so desperately wanting approval from anyone and everyone. It's a self loathing that is like a disease. I tried to help the guy, but he was unreachable. He drank himself to death by age 46. His childhood was full of corporal punishment. I believe that's what triggered it all. A mom who did nothing to stop a series of abusive step fathers. Sad.
