  • heck, i don't even get Shaw's advertised speed even when i use their speed test.

  • It's funny that Bell plays the compatition argument, but it's funny, in more areas where Bell and Rogers operate, all the competitors go through Bell or Rogers anyways. Not many people know this but most of the Canadian internet infrastructure is owned by the telcos, so really, the argument that there is any compatition is flawed, especially since they, Bell and Rogers/Shaw traffic shape.

  • CRTC set to impose bandwidth caps on all ISP's in Canada! Sign the petition! stopthemeter.ca

  • the crtc should be disbanded

  • @VancouverDriver You may have a good right to be suspicious. But it may also be simple cable issues when your area was wired, or modem issues.

  • Competition in this country is not throttled by traffic shaping. Its throttled by the CRTC, and other existing corporate-lobbied government regulatory bodies that limit other players from entering the field, through highly restrictive regulation, whose real purpose is to protect existing monopolies.

  • Bell Sympatico's throttling is why I left and went to Primus, its unlimited and they dont go through bell phone lines and its never throttled. The speeds are the same, and its much cheaper than Bell or Rogers.

  • Aye it's unfortunate they only block that port, they should block every port from 1 to 1023.

  • Not to mention that to get unlimited bw we're stuck with an over saturated cogent up-link :-(

  • Thats why I use Acanac :) It has unlimited bandwidth and its cheaper..but still they use Bell's telephone line for the DSL

  • Thank you Amber for this. Lots of info for future reference.
