Well, here we are. The final showdown. There's just one problem. In order to shutdown Overlord, Tex has to beat a vastly superior opponent at the game of chess with fewer pieces and even fewer moves. Can he do it?

Honestly, I could write a thesis about the relationship between Tex and Gideon. Seriously. It's not QUITE a greek tragedy, but it comes REALLY close. Tex knows that Gideon has had his endeavors stolen from him before, and it's clear that Tex likes Gideon, but out of a sense of moral responsibility, Tex is forced to crush Gideon's spirit a third time.

Gideon can claim to be pessimistic all he likes, but in this scene, we see that he hasn't quite given up hope yet. Until Tex delivers the killing blow, so to speak. Gideon takes his defeat gracefully and with class, something you've come to expect of the character. I doubt Gideon would've toasted Schimming for his success, but then, I like to believe that Gideon likes Tex. They could've been really good friends.

Speaking of, he gets his just desserts with Sylvia shortly afterwards, and we really start to see why they didn't work out, even if Tex couldn't - at the time, anyway.

One more vid to go, and we're done!

  • Hey guys - you can now play Conspiracies II - Lethal Networks - a game like Tex Murphy in High Definition check out Anima-ppd

  • Seemed pretty coldhearted to refuse to smoke with Gideon, and just turn to walk away without a word. Poor guy.

At least Gideon didn't really kill himself. He moved to Hollywood and opened a restaurant with Larry David.

  • This is hands down one of the greatest scenes in Tex Murphy's games.

  • Let the match begin! Fabulous scene, fabulous soundtrack!
