I agree with the meaning but Kru (Khru) is also Thai language.
This word is also using in the school class.
Word "Kru" (Khru) has the root from Pali language and Sanskrit language not from Khmer language.
The words are Pali's "Gru" and Sanskrit's "Guru". Both Thai and Khmer language adopt a lot of words from Indian Pali and Sanskrit language. That causes some words in both language have the similar in meaning and pronouncing.
