  • I have two standardbred's at home. Teached hem to canter and everything. We've had the same problems. But I've handled it a little different. Especially with the older one. That one was really bad treated. If I tried to slow the trot dawn, he realy got scared. We've tried that for a month! without any results. So I had to let him run, and rewarded him when he started to canter. After a week of practicing, He Stopped running away!

  • @Saartjen well done !

  • My standardbred goes into to canter really easily... but he doesn't stay in the canter.. it's really annoying when you are at a show..

  • @MeAndMyGalloway Carry a dressage whip and read the Horse. Just prior to the break back, tap behind the leg (side of rump) and relax. Consistency is what you want HOWEVER read my answer of today re the Dressage. A LACK OF BALANCE CAUSES break out of Canter. Cheers

  • The advice is this:

    Teach the Horse Leg Yield.

Ride it inside leg to outside rein, bent and flexed in the way of travel, with 'straightness' and 'suppleness' Then you have a "Balanced Horses and then they can canter not looking or acting like a motor bike

  • love the video does help alot, my standardbred horse will not canter no matter what we do and when we are in a trot and we sit for a canter we get immediate pacing and we have to bring him back wach time.

do you have any other ideas on how to get gim to canter and to also get him on the bit?

  • Recently my SB has through his head straight up and down when i ask him for a faster gait. i make sure there is no pressure on his mouth at all. he has a totally calm, chilled look in his eye when he does it. the more pressure i put on his sides and the less i put on the bit the more he seems to do it. he has no problem going through all his gaits on the lunge and until this point didnt when being riden.

  • @EmoBadgers134 Get the Dressage Right. Is your Horse 'supple' is it 'flexed' correct, is it 'bent' is it 'round' for without all of those, it will not be 'balanced' and therefore 'tense' Go Google 'straightness' and your Prayers may be answered ;)

It is all on my wife's dvd's

  • how do you teach them to collect

  • how do you ride your horse inside leg to the outside rein? is that squeezing with inside leg, holding&supporting with the outside rein? and my horse won't canter. i have to get her to go bloody fast to get a canter, but its so wobbly and uncomfortable. how do i train her to not be so wobbly when slowing down and be comfortable? lol. i need her to be able to canter and jump because i want her to be an eventer. i dont care if people say standardbreds cant be eventers, just needs a bit of training.

  • Hi

just wondering in your experience which standardbred is easier to break to canter? A Pacer or a Trotter? or what are the pros and cons for each? i have 2 Trotters ott both 9 years old.... going to start in summer with teh hard work.. :) thanx
