This poem is from Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, written in the 1930's.
You can buy a copy at Amazon or here at BetterWorld Books:

After T.S. Eliot died in 1965 the poems were set to music by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1981 for the musical "Cats". I will most likely delete any comments which refer to the musical because it is irrelevant.

  • I thought this was a song in a musical??

  • It's from "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" published in 1939. T.S Eliot, who wrote the poem, died in 1965. "Cats" - the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber taken from the poems - was first performed in 1981.

  • @Neighsayer24

    Yes it is!

AND OMG I MUST GET A HOLD OF THIS BOOK!! THEN I CAN THROW AWAY ALL THE PRINTED COPIES OF THE LYRICS!!!!!!! :D

  • @CosplayCore The poems were written 40 years before they were set to music. Andrew Lloyd Webber didn't use all the original material.

  • @TheLostGirls2 lol

  • I named my cat Skimbleshanks. She's female, unlike the actual Skimble but I don't think she minds.

  • I grew up with this book in my house before the show was even an idea, I'm sure you can just order it on amazon.

Oops! I thought I mentioned that I knew that here. lol Sorry! ^_^ I'll still probably buy this though and if I ever take it to school with me (you bet I will), I'll probably be singing during my lunch breaks. xD And my friends will probably ask me "WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU SINGING?!"

    "I'm singing about Jellicle Cats."

    "Whats a Jellicle Cat?"

"Do I see with my own very eyes, a friend whos not heard of a Jellicle Cat?"

"I give up. You won't talk any sense."

    "Okay, okay fine..."

    xD

  • Well, I did notice that the lyrics in the song version are a little different, but I wouldn't mind! :D

  • @SpokenVerse
