(1999) This is a video showing a CAVE® virtual reality environment that allows a walkthrough of Harlem, New York in the 1930s during a period known as the Harlem Renaissance.
The CAVE® application was developed at the Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) at the University of Illinois at Chicago, in collaboration with Central Missouri State University, the University of Missouri and the University of Arizona.
The Virtual Harlem project is a collaborative learning initiative whose purpose is to study the New York Harlem Renaissance through the construction of a collaborative virtual-reality scenario that represents Harlem as it existed in the 1920s and 30s. Advanced networking technologies will be applied to the Virtual Harlem project and its integration into African-American Studies classes at the University of Illinois at Chicago and partner institutions.
More information can be found on the EVL website -- http://www.evl.uic.edu/core.php?mod=4&type=1&indi=168
