I really enjoyed this video essay; it honestly seems like the kind of thing I would do for this type of class XD Very good job connecting the creatures to the overlaying themes of the story!
I think the Pale Man's tactic for eating people was to draw them in with a spread, like an angler fish. The symbolism you describe is indeed part of the character, but there is so much more.
wow...now I feel stupid. I missed so much of the symbolism. Thanks for sharing it. I can't believe I didn't catch the continual references to the unborn brother, and Ofelia's conflict with him. Now I am enlightened to a whole other aspect of the film...
@eilier Type "The Arrivals" series on Youtube. It will teach you about all the movies and how they make them for a certain purpose. Like the movie "Knowing", which gave the perfect day of the Gulf of Mexicao Oil spill, and other "accidents", also my greatgrandfather was a 32 degree. I have a pretty big picture of what's going on.
@eilier There's no right or wrong way to interpret a film. Whether or not Guillermo Del Toro intended certain symbolisms or not, every viewer is entitled to they're own opinions. He obviously researched the context of the film and the various creature mythologies, so they're reasonable analyses, not just random conjectures. With a film as artful as Pan's Labyrinth, there's bound to be multiple interpretations of the movie's meaning.
