Acrobatic Planes

Some acrobatic planes taking off and landing at the Royal Docks in London, 2 August 2008. The site is a short stretch of the old docks which has a concrete base, and had been suitably market with paint for the planes. Directly the other side of the stretch of water is City Airport.
The planes were taking part in a timed course around various obstacles placed in the Thames River, alongside the O2 Centre (formerly Millennium Dome). You can see the spiked structure of the Dome in the background of some of the shots. The camera work isn't great ... but that only adds to the excitement :)
