It is hot in this pocket of upper Southeast Texas, and the British White cow in this video, J.West's Bountiful Brigit, is improvising and overcoming. Brigit has a bite of hickory leaves and then decides to wash the tasty leaves down with water from the sprinkler.

We've been watering key shade tree areas for some weeks now as the drought is visibly weakening them, and some are already beginning to die. I headed out to check the sprinkler as they've been knocking it over at times. The beginning of this video shows you how dry the front pastures are now, quite crispy brown on the high sandy ground. The small group in this pasture wasted little time in making this grove their number one hang out spot in the heat of the day. Two of the older and fatter cows in this group had been showing visible signs of heat stress - not any more - apparently the water sprinkler helped them to cool down.

So is this a predictor of future events. I know that Tx is hot and humid but I'm not in for a few years of any kind of drought. Anyone have any ideas whether we'll be having some like 2011? Email me at R2T4@aol.com please.

!She drank and drank and drank, then walked off and the rest of the herd went with her to the front where their water trough actually is, she's sort of the alpha cow in this group.
