As mentioned last time this video was posted here, Kenins' Chaconne poses challenging problems to the performer, not least formal ones. It is nevertheless a piece with very strong expressive potential. When Prof. Kenins passed away, not just Canada or Latvia, but the musical world at large lost one of its deepest personalities. His symphonies, his violin concerto and several other concertante works, the 2nd violin sonata should be part of the standard repertoire.
