Firstly, it's not in Long Beach - it's in Garden Grove. And it's NOT a gold cross - it's just lacquer. As you criticise this building, consider the massive cathedrals and basilicas throughout the world, especially Europe. Yes people are starving in our country - but you still bought a video camera and paid for travel instead of donating that money to the needy.

Have you heard the Hazel Wright-Pearl Nugent Organ in this sanctuary? This church rescued that instrument from the trash heap of Carnegie Hall decades ago and have turned it to the glory of God Almighty. God is pleased when He is magnified with excellence. 20,000,000 people worldwide are blessed weekly as a result of this ministry. It is but one way of working out the Great Commission. And work it does...

@americanbaptist This organ part of which was the Ruffatti organ the ministry already had, and the other part (the Aeolian-Skinner) was from Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center in NYC NOT Carnegie Hall which never had a pipe organ (or at least that large as the one in Avery Fisher Hall). The Hazel Wright Organ is a combination of those two organs. Today sadly, it goes unused and needs repair. Hazel must be spinning in her grave at warp speed, and digging deeper. The Schuller's ruined that church.

@underyourgrace God demands both social justice and right worship. You will see it all the way from old testament times to all the books of the new testament. Christianity is not merely a vehicle for social justice. It encompasses so much more. Remember that the rich man was condemned not for being rich, but because he had the opportunity each day to help a poor man, but did nothing at all.

Perhaps you're missing the true message behind all that you see. The beauty of the cathedral makes you look up while it lifts your mind and heart to God. The golden cross gives us the message that our true treasure lies within the cross. The cross is made of a vertical plain and a horizontal plain. The vertical makes us remember to give God His due and the horizontal reminds us to reach out to each other on in charity. Peace

Well the local Diocese bought the bldg. today and it will become a front containing a biological weapons R&D lab underneath to be used in the coming holy war on Islam. If you live near it you might want to consider moving or selling before word gets out.
