It is effective at pretty much any depth from 2 feet to 30. I am mostly a winter pattern fisherman, so I am usually fishing in deep water (deep being relative to the body of water u are on). I am usually anywhere from 10 to 30 feet deep. Since winter fish are usually hugging the bottom, I drop bait all the way down till it hits, then crank the reel 2 full rotations. Depending on what the fish tell me I may go one crank or four, but 2 is usually about right.
