i.m.o., there's much more going on in this episode than meets the eye. Take a good look at Bartlett's face when he snaps off the tv He intentionally led Vinick down this path to get him to say this on tv, costing Vinick crucial votes. Bartlett plotted the whole thing starting all the way back when he attached a minimum wage hike to a bill in order to get Vinick to come to the Oval Office. Don't forget Bartlett's character is supposed to be brilliant. i.m.o. it's a VERY well-written episode!

I used to think that too but John Spencer was in the episode following the nuclear accident episode though.

What I read recently they didn't know who should win and when John died it made the choice easy.

If politicians were like Bartlett, Santos and Vinick, the country would be better off. Everything Vinick said was right on. Religous people want religion in politics they are just begging to be lied to. These people lie for a living anways. Put votes on the table and see what happens.

Alan Alda was a great choice for Vinick.

That's not really accurate considering that Kennedy was killed and Johnson refused to run. Kennedy was immensely popular and Johnson, in the middle of a war, could have beaten Nixon.

This is what makes the West Wing great. It's very realistic depicting the American political landscape.

But it also has characters that can say what's on their minds. No politician would get away with what Vinick says, but it's the truth.

I would vote for Vinick every time. He's the finest kind of Republican.

When watching the last season of 'The West Wing' all I could think was how dreadful Santos was, and how outstanding Vinick was.

Heck, I'm a lifelong Democrat, and I would have been tempted to vote Vinick.

There won't be an Arnie Vinick in real life for the very reason said in this clip: voters want to be lied to, because they can't handle reality.

1) American Presidential Elections had, until recently, always been decided without the input of women and other minorities who were barred from the polls. Just because it has always been one way doesn't mean its in our best interests.

2) Every person who desires to run for office MUST by definition go through the rigamarole. If people didn't have to comply with these institutions then there would be nothing to protest.

3) That just proves how inaaccurate the electoral college is.
