Opening a Spyderco Endura using a "wave" type modification. The first opening is done with the thumb-hole (as you would open a knife without the "wave"). subsequent openings are done utilizing the "wave." Draws to a few different types of grips are shown.

  • Very good. Top-notch technique. Did you practice with a trainer knife? I'd be a bit wary of practicing with a live blade. I have a waved Endura and Delica, but I don't open them nearly this quickly.

If you could show a slower version of this, it would help clarify how you arrive at the various grips.

I don't think I owned a trainer when I shot this video, lol. As far as the various grips, for the forward grip, and reverse-grip edge-out, I simply draw the knife and close my hand around it. For the reverse-grip edge-in, you have to "roll" the knife into your fist since it starts out in the edge-out orientation. Search "P'kal folder carry and deployment" from ShivWorks for a great description/explanation of the technique.

  • I've been told having the wave horn catch on the lining of your pocket has a tendency to really wear it out, sometimes to a point where it begins to rip the seam.

Is that true or are they just talkin out their ass?

  • yeah, that can happen if you use the wave a lot (dozens of draws). I would just practice with an older pair of jeans/pants so you don't wear out a nice pair.

  • Couldn't hear a word :(

  • yeah, the crappy camera I was using didn't pick up the audio very well. See the written description.

  • You are good with a blade my friend.. Great technique

  • Not as easy as it looks. It's not a problem to use the wave with a standard position but how he gets the different grips took some practice.

  • the hook on the spine of the blade catches the pocket and swings the blade open as the knife is drawn.

  • Amazing

  • Thanx dude! :)
