How to open an ASTONE ISO Gear 288 series portable harddrive - 500GB. Use caution when opening the drive as it is possible to damage the circuit board inside due to its poor placement. Unplug the drive before attempting this. Once you remove the drive you can use it as a replacement drive for either a laptop or PS3 and still have a spare case in which to insert another smaller SATA drive (the one you removed from the PS3 or laptop for instance). This case also comes in White and no doubt other smaller companies also use the same form factor.

Once you remove the drive I would assume you could replace your existing PS3 drive with this one, its a SATA drive of the same physical size. I dont have a PS3 myself but its quite easy to remove and replace the existing PS3 drive apparantly. The PS3 is designed to make it easy to swap drives and has inbuilt software facilities to make the swapover straightforward. Research compatibility of this drive with PS3 first though but I think you will find it will be fine.
