@winchymatt: Was this autonomous behaviour based on distance sensor data, or remote controlled?
-
makes me wanna buy a coke :)

My answer on how to detect malfunctioning leg: Replace the servo electronics with i2c compatible digital controller (eg. openservo - it will fit with light changes into an 12mm case). This is the best solution. Or simply use an shunt per leg or servo and an amplifier to measure the current the servo draws.
@MATT: Great work. Keep going!

Ok then, tell me how you will detect that a leg is nonfunctioning?
-
a good feature would be an easy to discard leg, as in if one servo stripped its gears, you could detach it, like how a crayfish does so you dont have to drag the non functioning leg and have it cause problems
-
So I'm thinking it's going to kill the coke can. But... it just went around it. -_-

I didn't thought nothing bad !!

sure is, but in a good way!

a few things why is it marked as -1? it was a suggestion/a thought
say power surge detectors, which would detect if a servo was using abnormal amounts of power or a direction tracker where the bot's supposed to go forward but its not due to a bad leg... i mean it was just a suggestion not a bad comment what your doing is way past my brains here im most talkin out of my ass
