Canadian Activists Urge Obama to Reject Environmentally Destructive Oil Extraction from Alberta's Tar Sands

President Barack Obama is heading to Canada today for his first foreign trip as president. A coalition of environmental groups are urging Obama to cut back on Americas dependence on oil from the tar sands in Alberta, Canada. Greenpeace says the tar sands generate three to five times as much greenhouse gas pollution as the production of conventional oil.

@Longdrivesatnight some of the oil sands is used in the manufacture of Solar panels. There is many different things the oil from the oilsands is used for other them gasoline. Fucking solar panels are made from plastic a product of the oilsands

If everyone in America changed just one Bulb in their home from an incandescent to a CFL it would be the equivalent of taking 7.5 million cars off the road. Use your man power properly Greenpeace

I can tell you that working in the oil business sure pays more than working at a solar panel manufacturer or some dumb ass retail outlet. Stop the oil sands and what you have accomplished is killing the vital part of Canada's economic engine. I'm all for protecting our enviroment as much as possible...I'm all for companies having the best technologies to protect the enviroment etc...but stopping the industry all together is pure idiocy.
