Leonardo Maniscalco was born in Sciacca (Sicily) in 1956. He studied trumpet with Prof. Antonino Bitonto at the Conservatoire in Palermo where he got his Certificate with the best credits.
His career started in 1977, when he first collaborated with the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra where he was declared fit in a competition for second trumpet.
He assumed the role of first trumpet in the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, following a national audition. He won other auditions in the Orchestra of the Commune Theatre in Bologna, in the Massimo Theatre in Palermo, in the Italian Youth Orchestra in Fiesole, in the Customs Officer Band.
In 1981, he won the competition for second trumpet in the Rome Opera Theatre where he is still doing his main activity.
In 1982 he attended the International Trumpet Seminar held by Prof. Pierre Thibaud in Reggio Emilia.
He played for the fellowing directors: Metha, Sinopoli, Pretre, Patanè, Aronovich, Semkov, Tate, Oren, Muti, Nelson, Santi, Pesko, Fedosseiev, Gelmetti, Gavazzeni, Bartoletti, Lombard, Rostropovich, Rota, Morricone, Ortolani, De Fabritiis, Ziino, Ferro, Ceccato, Freccia, Delmann, Maag, Renzetti, Koenig, and many others.
He was a teacher of trumpet and trombone at the Musical Institute Briccialdi in Terni from 1983 to 1988.
He recorded three arias for trumpet and harp by E. Cortese.
In 1993 he wrote a method for trumpet entitled Sonority and Technique that was published in two volls. by ESARMONIA (www.esarmonia.com) in 2002 that received a success of criticism to world level.
Compatibly with the lyric-symphonic performances at the Opera Theatre in Rome, he has been acting as a soloist and in chamber groups.
